What is Art Healing?

Art healing is the process of using art and colour therapeutically. Its aim is to help people express their inner most thoughts and feelings using images rather than words. Using a number of art therapy techniques, it can help organise ones thoughts, perception and physical responses in ways that can assist healing. The process of colouring in itself is a powerful way of releasing ‘blocked’ energy, repressed thoughts and emotions. As we let go of our fears, problems and attachments, we relieve ourselves from the grip they hold over our lives, and help prevent their manifestation into physical illness.

Art is a wonderful media for self-expression; as we draw, our internal dialogue is expressed onto the page to reveal our inner selves.  By reading the colours and shapes produced, I can identify problems in need of healing. Art Healing can also help us manifest our goals and dreams by using symbolic imagery that communicates to our subconscious mind.

How can Art Healing help achieve goals?

Art healing can help us manifest our desires and dreams into physical reality using the following techniques:
Mandalas:  A mandala is a circular shaped image that acts as a container of energy. (see the image above) Whilst creating one, you place your intention and energy into the drawing, which amplifies the manifestation process. This allows you to draw into your life your dreams, aspirations and desire for good health. Psychoanalyst Carl Jung studied mandalas and revealed that their creation allowed a deep healing to take place from within the human psyche.

Goal Boards:
Goal boards are visual maps of where you want to be (see pic). They too are powerful tools for manifestation as I have witnessed personally over and over

What happens during a healing session?

I will guide you through a number of tasks to suit your needs. This could include any of the following:

  • drawing a series of instructed images
  • colouring in colour charts to reduce stresses and fears
  • colouring in a mandala
  • creating a goal board to help manifest your desires
  • completing a ritual to let go of fears
  • selecting images to be interpreted

At the end of the session I will give you feedback and an analysis of your drawings, from which I will identify areas in need of healing and suggest ways of doing so.

Who can benefit from Art Healing?

Anyone can enjoy Art healing as a fun alternative to other therapeutic approaches. It is not necessary to possess drawing abilities in order to partake, the process of creating artwork is more important than the finished product. It is especially helpful for people who do not know the root cause of their problem, or for those who are unable to express themselves verbally, such as young children or people with learning difficulties.
